Wood carving produces lots of fine wood dust! To avoid breathing it, you need to have good dust collector. You can spend upwards of $450 for a factory built desk top dust collector. They all use paper filters that need to be cleaned and changed frequently, and they all sit on the carving desk and you carve in front of them. They collect the fine dust on the paper filter and the larger pieces drop onto the area where you are carving. You have to continually brush away that debris and pick it up with a dust pan.
The unit that I built for myself collects the dust in a bag and you sit over it to carve. Much easier and very little mess. Empty the bag into your trash can.op unit. The parts cost less than $200 and the fan is an explosion proof motorized impeller that is quite and produces about 800 cfm. I can send you the plans to build it and tell you where to purchase all the parts.
Are the plans free? Weelllll...no; but for $35 Cdn (about $28 US) I can save you a lot of grief trying to figure it out on your own. Includes the measurements, cutting out and assembly, where to buy the parts and how to connect the impeller, the capacitor and the variable speed switch. The impeller is 60% of the cost. Send me an e-mail and I will send you an invoice and email the plans to you.
