I did these Dolphins after getting inspired spending a day with Wick Ahrens from Vermont, whom I visited the year I went to the Wards World Carving Competition. He lived in Weston, Vermont and was, in my opinion, the best carver of whales! Sadly, he passed away recently. He had done a similiar carving and I decide to keep this one and not sell it. The driftwood mount is Yellow Cedar with a black walnut base. The reference description for the side colour said "an hourglass pattern colored light grey, yellow, or gold in front and dirty grey in back". If I did another I would use more of a muted beige/yellow tone for the side area rather than the brighter colour I used for this carving.
